Bike Through May

Posted on: May 22nd, 2014 by LAMedicalBlogger
Save some money and take your bike today!

Park the car, LA Medical suggests taking the bike to work or out for a cruise.

LA Medical encourages bike enthusiasts to get out and ride to celebrate Bike Week, May 12-16, and take time to enjoy family and the great outdoors.

More than half of the United States population lives within five miles of their workplace, which makes biking a practical way to get around. As people continue to take an interest in their health and fitness, it is no wonder that biking commuters grew by 47 percent from 2000 to 2011.

Communities across the country have planned their own biking events to commemorate National Bike to Work day which takes place on May 16 this year. But remember, Bike Month is more than just one day!

So if you’re still questioning about what to do for Bike Month or if you’re just unsure about getting on a bike, LA Medical wants you to consider these options:

  1. Stay Fit

A 30-minute bike ride can burn up to 300 calories and increase your strength and heart rate. Soon, pedaling up that big hill or racing your kids will take less effort and have you feeling better about yourself and your health!

  1. Money Saving

The price of fuel climbs higher each and every day. Add on car payments, registration, and insurance and your monthly budget for transportation is quickly maxed out. Biking is free after you purchase your bicycle, and who doesn’t like saving money?

  1. Parking

Bikers don’t have to worry about finding a place to park or paying for parking, they simply just have to look for a bike rack. If there is not one available, trees, benches, lampposts, or fences can also be used to harness your bike. Reduce your worries with bicycles!

  1. Enjoy the Ride

Turn ordinary activities, such as the commute to work, into entertainment when you ride a bike. Find enjoyment in getting around and meeting people who are also interested in biking along the way.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or beginner biker, LA Medical encourages you to take some time out of your busy life and get on a bike and enjoy the outdoors!
